Belonging to a Church Family
At Cornerstone Wirral, we believe and practice covenant membership. This means that belonging to the church is rooted in gospel relationship, mutual commitment, and shared life in Christ.
Through faith in Jesus, we are united to Him and therefore to one another. Covenant Membership is a way of expressing this spiritual reality in practical and visible ways, as we choose to walk together in love, faith, and obedience to Christ (Ephesians 4:1).
Becoming a covenant member is not about joining an organisation. It is about committing yourself to a people, choosing to grow as a disciple, and partnering in the mission God has given us.
Why Does Covenant Membership Matter?
In a culture where church can easily become something we attend when convenient, the Bible invites us into something deeper, a covenant community shaped by grace and truth.
Covenant Membership matters because it provides clarity, care, and commitment.
It Brings Clarity
Covenant Membership helps us understand who we are walking with in faith. It affirms that this is the church family where you are seeking to grow, serve, and be shaped as a follower of Jesus.
It Provides Care
As covenant members, we place ourselves within a community of pastoral care. Our elders commit to pray for you, shepherd you, and walk with you through every season of life, joys, struggles, questions, and growth.
It Nurtures Commitment
Covenant Membership encourages faithfulness and perseverance. We encourage one another to keep following Jesus, even when life is difficult or faith feels fragile.
When you become a covenant member, you are saying:
This is my church family.
These are my people.
This is where I want to grow as a follower of Jesus.
We do not expect perfection. We simply want to walk together in grace, truth, and love.
What Does Life Together Look Like?
Covenant Membership at Cornerstone Wirral is about learning to follow Jesus together in everyday life.
By God’s grace, as covenant members, we seek to:
- Gather regularly to worship God and sit under His Word
- Grow in prayer, Scripture, and spiritual maturity
- Care for one another with compassion and practical love
- Serve joyfully according to our gifts and opportunities
- Live on mission in our families, workplaces, and neighbourhoods
- Give generously to support God’s work through the church
These are not boxes to tick. They are rhythms of grace that help us grow as disciples and reflect Christ to one another and to the world.
We pursue these things imperfectly, patiently, and together, trusting God to keep shaping us over time.
Our Covenant Commitment to One Another
Covenant membership is a mutual commitment shaped by the gospel.
As elders, we seek to:
- Teach the Bible faithfully and clearly
- Pray for you and walk with you pastorally
- Encourage your growth in Christ
- Support you through seasons of joy and struggle
- Lead with humility, integrity, and care
As members, we seek to:
- Walk openly and honestly with one another
- Encourage one another in faith and obedience
- Speak truth in love
- Pursue unity and peace
- Bear one another’s burdens
Together, we depend on God’s grace, not our own strength.
Who Is Covenant Membership For?
Covenant Membership is for those who:
- Trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour
- Have been baptised as believers
- Desire to grow under the authority of God’s Word
- Want to walk in accountable, gospel-shaped community
- Are ready to commit themselves to this church family
Covenant Membership is not about having everything together. It is about being willing to grow, repent, learn, and follow Jesus alongside others.
If you are exploring faith, new to church, or still asking questions, you are very welcome at Cornerstone. Covenant Membership is not a requirement for belonging, but it is a meaningful next step for those who are ready.
